The 6 WEEK BURPEE CHALLENGE

Hi everyone, Long time no write!

I have been so busy with final exams, catching up with old friends, and getting back on rhythm and I haven’t been able to write.

With these complications, it has also been hard to exercise and eat clean. Some weeks have been better than others, but I really need to get back on track. So I have set up some goals for myself for at least to the end of february (leap year?).

1. drink at least 1.5 water bottles throughout the school day

2. go to sleep at 10 (I have to finish this post fast to get on track

3. Only eat what I need

4. exercise at least 3 days a week

5. THE 6 WEEK BURPEE CHALLENGE!!!

What is this you might ask, well this is a challenge I made up based on something I saw on pinterest. The post on pinterest said that it was a challenge to do 1000 burpees by Febuary 28th. I don’t know about you, but I don’t think I have the time, or at the fitness level to do so many in once month. So I altered it. Here is my plan: week 1 (Jan 28-Feb 3): 5 burpees (x7 days), week 2: (Feb 4-10) 10(x7), week 3: 15 (x7), Week 4: 20 (x7), Week 5: 25(x7), Week 6: 30 (x7)!!! All together that would be 735 burpees In 6 WEEKS! I think that’s pretty good. The idea is that each week I will add 5 burpees, making it get harder as my fitness goes up.

So you might ask, What is a Burpee? A burpee is where you jump in the air and lift your arms, land in a crouching position, jump or step back into a plank and (optional: do a pushup). It kind of looks like a frog jumping, and the word burpee reminds me of froggy 🙂 They can be really hard but they get better over time. If you are still unsure, here is a video on how to do them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pf7wZvraWV0

You might be like, “Izze, Why are you explaining a burpee?” And that’s because I challenge YOU America to do this challenge. It will strengthen your fitness and I will be doing it a long with you! So do it with your friends, send in pictures, get fit. I will be posting pics of  me/update you on how it’s going and I would love if you could comment how it’s going for you (maybe even send in pics.)

Join me, smile, laugh, sleep well

PS: I’M GOING TO TAKE A BREAK FOR VEGANISM ON FEBUARY 14th THROUGH THE BEGINNING OF SEPTERMBER!!! I know this blog is about a teen vegan, and it still will be. Besides the burpee challenge, when the day arrives I will post about it. I will post about how it’s going and thoughts throughout the break. I will still be vegetarian. So I will explain in my next post about why I am doing this. night night.

“Gets Fit Gets Well”

At my school we have a block (set time in schedule) called community block (instead of block ABCDEGH). We usually here speakers from outside organizations doing anything from watching some fun improv to learning how to forgive people who you might have thought are evil. So basically its an interesting block.

But this time the school counselor and athletic director organized a community block called “(insert my schools name here) Gets Fit Gets Well”. I was so excited! A time when people at my school have the oppurtunity to work out with fun activities. Activities included 7 minute circuts, volleyball, Zumba, basketball and the list goes on.

That was definitley (sp?) a highlight of my day. Just wanted to share that because i was really inspired and I thought that was an amazing idea. Try to start a zumba club, or take a walk with work buddies and you will feel great

Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving!

So first of all I know thanksgiving already happened, but I just waned to reflect on it and my health parts of it.
So the day started with me waking up at 10am (sleeping in yay) and chilling with my family, then I cooked a brownie-pumkin pie and it was delicious (totally vegan) and the rest of my intermediate family (who celebrated the holiday with us) helped cook something. I’m not sure if you could tell from the picture but the whole meal was vegan minus the turkey!! Great Family right? So after the pie was coolin and my mom was done cooking we went by a nearby lake and walked/ran for about 45 minutes and it was a good workout. It was really windy and it was so detoxifying I felt alot better in many ways, even on a break, after the jog/walk.
Thanksgiving was also the second night of Hanukkah so I celebrated Hanukkah with my family and thats what the third picture is 🙂
I got alot of health and fitness related stuff so I’m super excited about that and I think I am going to share that with you soon!
I just joined my schools hip-hop team so I am so pumped to tell you about that (next post)!
Also I wanted to say I am so grateful to everyone who reads my blog, and my gym membership, and the ability to take walks in nature, and to have such a loving, supporting family.
*oh I also played in a park with my bro

My Meals today!

Here is what I ate today (all vegan and almost raw!)

Woke up: Warm glass of water with fresh lime juice (less than half a lime – very strong)

Breakfast: a fruit salad I made last night with apple slice, a tangerine, banana, and grapes. Then for some protein I had to tablespoons (or a bit more) of hummus which I accompanied with Bell peppers

Lunch: today at school it was “burrito nacho day” so I had black beans and guacamole topped by a salad consisting of tomato, cucumber and lettuce with olive oil vinigrette for dressing. So delicious! (and water)

Dinner: half a banana sliced dipped in some almond butter (appitizer) followed by a whole wheat Trader Joe’s tortilla smeared with hummus and bell pepper and celerie. I made it a wrap and it was really tasty!

So that is what I had today. I just wanted to give an example of my nutrition habits and what I eat because this blog is partially about my veganism. Hope you enjoyed, try these on your own and if you have any questions feel free to ask!
